I realize this means the road is closed to everyone, but what I would like to know is can I still get to the trail-heads by walking through the pastures ?

I'm no lawyer but I did defeat them 100% of the time in court and I think this is pretty clear..."Trailheads along the road will be closed, including Cooper Road Trail, Abrams Falls Trail, and Rabbit Creek Trail."

There are other ways to get to many of the trails... There is a back way to get to Abrams (actually a much better hike in my opinion). Depending on the amount of time you have and the distance you want to hike most of the trails are accessible.

Cool, that means there won't be as much vehicle traffic while road riding up to the Cove entrance from Townsend while its closed and with the new pavement in the Cove it will be okay to ride a road bike thru on saturday mornings in the summer.

d'oh.

that's the link I was looking for.

That's a shame really, the main reason I stay away from the cove (unless biking) is all the traffic.

Anyone seen any plans on this? What the end result will be?
The old path made cycling exciting, so new pavement could be nice. New pavement might make people drive faster, which might be a good thing. The only time I rode up there during the day, we biked at 5mph because we couldn't pass the cars....

from what I've seen it is a resurfacing project only. perhaps a little wider in areas for pull offs.. Not that the idiots that drive the thing will actually use the pull offs. Nothing makes me happier than sitting there waiting for some fool to get back in their car because they decided to just stop in the middle of a curve and get everyone out of their van to look at a bear. What makes me additionally bitter about the scenario is there is usually a pull off about 30 feet in front of them.

I need to pull-off a Heinous Loop pretty soon before they lock us out. I understand a full moon is on the calender for 2/28. Might be a good weekend to try such a thing, if it's not too cold.
